Family Law
Amy E. Sauter dedicates her practice to all aspects of family law, including divorce, child custody, parenting time, asset and debt division, spousal maintenance, and post-decree issues. Her approach is tailored to learn her client’s particular circumstances, all the while being mindful of the family dynamics and relationships that will continue on after the resolution of their legal issues.
Biography
A Minnesota native and Minnesota State University, Mankato alumna, Amy received her law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and returned to Minnesota where she was in private practice for six years in the St. Cloud area. Amy is very involved in the Mankato community. She is currently active with the Minnesota Women Lawyers, 6th District Family Law Section, and the Minnesota River Valley Wind Ensemble. In her free time, Amy enjoys watching the Minnesota Twins and spending time with her dog, Alvin.
Experience
Amy joined Farrish Johnson Law Office in 2016 to continue serving individuals and families. She became a Shareholder in 2018. Amy’s demonstrated ability to represent clients aggressively yet compassionately has gained her the respect of clients, judges, and opposing counsel.
In addition to being an attorney, Amy is also a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®. As a CDFA®, Amy can help determine the short-term and long-term financial impact of a proposed divorce settlement. She helps her clients avoid the common financial pitfalls of divorce by offering valuable insight into the pros and cons of different settlement proposals.
Amy represents farmers, business owners, and other professionals—or their spouses—in handling complex issues, including business valuation, spousal maintenance, and protection of non-marital assets from a spouse’s marital claim. As a creative problem solver, CDFA®, and a licensed attorney, Amy brings a unique perspective to her clients which allows her to blend the legal and financial aspects often involved in a divorce.
Amy’s practice also includes representing unmarried parents in custody and parenting time matters, spousal maintenance issues, antenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, as well as modification of enforcement of prior orders.
Amy also serves as a Rule 114 Qualified Neutral for family law mediation.
